President Ruto Lauds Eco-Banana Limited for winning the Hult Prize Award

President William Ruto has praised a group of Kenyan students who went by the group name Eco-Banana Limited for winning the global finals of the Hult Prize that was held in New York on Tuesday.

Eco-Banana was awarded One Million dollars (Kshs. 120 million) for their efforts.

President William Samoei Ruto congratulated the Eco-Banana saying that their innovation had a hustler’s spirit in it and that he was keen to offer his support.

“Congratulations to Eco-Banana, a Kenyan social venture started by four university students, that has just won the prestigious Hult Prize and a cash award of 1 million dollars.

“The prize is awarded to entrepreneurs who strive to tackle pressing global issues through innovation. The firm makes hygienic sanitary pads from banana fibres. This is the Hustler Spirit that we are keen to support,” said President Ruto.

The four students attend St. Paul’s University and they include Lennox Omondi, Keylie Muthoni, Dulla Shiltone and Brian Ndung’u.

The students came out on top beating five other teams with their concept of making sanitary pads using biodegradable banana fibre. Their idea also helps to stop the manufacture of plastics to protect the environment.
