Potential Salary Delays as DP Rigathi Reveals Government is Broke

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that there is not a lot of money in the government coffers meaning that civil servants should expect salary delays.

Teachers and civil servants are now fearing that the DP’s sentiments could mean that they have to wait a little bit longer to get their salaries and allowances.

There were rumours that once President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took office that the government had very little finances.

The first revelations were made by Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei who revealed that President William Ruto only found Kshs. 93.7 million in public coffers.

In a statement regarding the economy, Senator Cherargei called for patience from Kenyans saying that the issue would be handled to get the country’s economy back o track.

“The economy is no longer in ICU but death because H.E. Ruto only found 93.7 million at the treasury. Uhuru went home with everything. State Capture is REAL!” said the Senator on Twitter.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua confirmed the news that the government had inherited almost no money.

However, despite the sentiments, the DP said that money is available to pay salaries to public officers but said that they do not have any for development.

“The situation is very bad, there is no money in the Treasury at all, and the little that we are collecting goes to salaries and you have to keep the country going so we need to do a lot to boost production. In another 90-100 days the economy will start feeling the effect of good management,” said Rigathi Gachagua.

Teachers usually receive their salaries on the 26th day of every month. However, county and public health workers have been experiencing delays in salary payment and some of them go even for months without receiving their pay.

At the moment, counties have received funding from the Treasury for the past three months and governors are waiting for the government to issue directives regarding the delay in county funding.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati was optimistic that President Ruto would keep his word on funding and transfer of functions to counties.

“Counties are looking at looming workers strike because they were last paid in July. The new governors are not sure of how to deal with this. We hope the monies will be disbursed on time,” said Arati.

Despite the sentiments regarding salary delays, some public servants hope they will get their salaries early.
