Police officers in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County are having five students from Karumandi Boys High School in their custody over an arson attack the led to the burning down of a dormitory.
According to Gichugu Police Commander Anthony Mbogo, the fire reportedly begun at around 4 am burnt down a dormitory that had a capacity of 83 students.
Mr. Mbogo said that it took the efforts of many students to put down the fire but by that time personal items belonging to the students had already burnt in the fire.
Besides, he stated that the five students in police custody shall be arraigned in court at Gichugu Law Courts where they shall face charges of arson.
This becomes the second school in Kirinyaga County to have a dormitory after Karia Secondary School which has since been closed for a period of two weeks.
This follows a series of students assaulting teachers with many cases reported across the country. One notable case was one that involved a Kisii School student who stabbed two teachers with one of them suffering serious injuries.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has since warned any students involved in any criminal activities in school or out of school that they shall face the law as well as have a permanent mark on their certificates of Good Conduct.
