Two separate road accidents in Matungulu, Machakos County have claimed the life of one student and seriously injured four others on Thursday while travelling home for the Midterm Break.
Matungulu Sub-County police commander Monica Kimani revealed that the first accident occurred in Nguluni along the Nairobi-Kangundo Road while the second occurred in Masokani along Koma-Kenol Road.
“The first accident occurred at around 1050 hours at Nguluni along the Nairobi-Kangundo Road whereby one Daniel Ragira (42), the driver of a motor vehicle registered under number KBU 765U, make Toyota Fielder from Nairobi general direction and on reaching the loation of the accident, he had tried to overtake,” reported Kimani.
According to Kimani, Emmanuel Wambua 15 died on the spot as a result of the impact, whie Enock Wambua aged 13 fractured his left leg.
The deceased and the injured were students at the Countryside Educational Centre students who were travelling home for the midterm break when the incident occurred.
According to Ragira, he swerved off the road o avoid a car that had been overtaking, causing the accident.
Daniel Muli, principal of Muindi Mbingu Secondary School confirmed that the students involved in the accident were attending his school.
“I was driving ahead of them when I heard a loud thud. When I stopped, I realized the vehicle behind carrying students had crashed,” reported Muli.
Muli said that the students were on their way home after the school closed for the half-term break.
Kimani revealed that the body of the deceased was transported to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary and was preserved awaiting a postem mortem and subsequent disposal.
