Nairobi County Issues Scholarships and Bursaries to Needy Students from 85 Wards

Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja revealed on Sunday that his government has boosted bursaries for eligible students in all wards of the capital city.

Besides, Governor Sakaja has also started sponsoring needy, intelligent students through their secondary school.

He revealed a church service held at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Embakasi that he had directed the distribution of bursary forms in the city to his County Chief Officers.

On the same day, around 300 bursary forms were distributed in the city.

“I will sponsor all candidates who sat for their KCPE and performed well with over 350 marks, not for one term but from Form One to Form Four. That is scholarship. I have brought you 50 forms.

“These 50 young people, will educate them until they finish school,” said Governor Sakaja to the church congregation.

“These full scholarships to support needy bright secondary school students from Nairobi County to access education in Public National, Extra-County and County Schools across the country for the full four-year secondary school cycle,” added Governor Sakaja.

In this academic year, Sakaja said that he will distribute a total of Kes. 1,025,000,000 in Executive Scholarships and Ward bursaries.

Each of the 85 Wards will be allocated Kes 6M in Ward Bursaries. This is a raise from last year’s Kes. 4.5 M.

Ward Bursary Committees are charged with distributing Ward bursaries and they are in turn overseen y MCAs in the county.

The remaining forms will be distributed by Nairobi City Public Primary Schools.

The Governor said that the procedure regarding the bursaries and scholarships was done in a transparent manner. He warned that corruption will not be allowed in the County.

“If we hear anybody trying to sell these scholarships or bursaries, they will go home immediately and will be prosecuted,” said Governor Sakaja.
