Mombasa County Director for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), Libraries Department and ICT, Mwangi Gichui has implored the Ministry of Education to incorporate robotics in the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Gichui said that after the successfully concluded robotics competition in Mombasa, robotics should be incorporated into the CBC.
“The robotics program targets PP2 pupils. It should be incorporated in the CBC for learners to continue with it in other higher grades to improve innovative thinking more so in Mombasa where we have added innovation in schools to ensure continuity,” said Gichui.
Besides, Gishui told parents to support their children in learning technology while preparing for the future.
According to him, the fourth revolution will be based on technology. In addition, the development of human capital is ongoing albeit at an early age.
He also said that Jomo Kenyatta University and Mombasa Campus have supported the robotics programme as they partnered with the robotics competition.
Gichui also revealed that Jomo Kenyatta University has adapted courses to train students in technology and robotics.
“With the advent of artificial intelligence, Information Technology (IT) is the way to go and it is high time that the Ministry of Education incorporated the robotics machine in the CBC,” he added.
Gichui also said that if the young people can be nurtured at early stages, then they can get to university innovation that can be commercialized to international standards in the global market.
