Mount Kenya University Health Students Asssociation (MKUHSA) and a local ACK Church Mothers Union recently provided a free medical services in Mithini.
“We had a team of doctors, oral health officers, nurses, clinical officers and community health workers volunteering to provide medical care to the people in the area for a day,” said Ahmed Shenga the President of MKUHSA who represented the medical team.
The community received medical checkups, medical reviews, counseling for family planning, cervical and prostate cancer screening, dental care and eye assessment. In the event, health education was provided on family planning, nutrition, diet and public health sessions and distribution of essential medications like contraceptives.
“One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was seeing the impact we had on people’s lives. We saw a lot of people with preventable illnesses and it was clear that the camp was making a significant difference in their lives,” said Shenga.
The local ACK church and Mithini community expressed their gratitude for the services they received and the organizers promised to continue supporting similar initatives.
