A teenage girl in Makueni County is suffering from severe swelling on her left shoulder hindering her ability to move around and painful sores.
Cynthia Ndunge, a 17-year-old secondary school student was optimistic when she went for the COVID-19 jab in February but noticed a constant itching on her affected arm a short while after receiving the jab.
Her condition only worsened, and she now depends on her mother to move around and bathe.
The area where she received the jab is now a painful sore that requires frequent dressing. Cynthia says that her most significant challenges are a lack of sleep and nausea as she could not lie down because of the pain from her wounds.
Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with a rare bone cartilage cancer called “left-shoulder chondrosarcoma” at the Kenyatta National Referral Hospital.
Her mother is a cleaner at a nearby local restaurant and cannot afford to pay for her daughter’s treatment because her savings are depleted. The family currently lives in a rented area in Kiboko in Makueni County.
The young girl’s case shows the potential risks that are associated with vaccination and the importance of adequate medical care and financial support for the affected.
It is a good idea to ensure that any affected individual has access to appropriate medical treatment and support in case of severe reactions to vaccination.
