Magoha: School Capitation to be Released On Monday

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has assured heads of institutions that the government will send funds to schools in the coming week.

According to Prof Magoha, the government will keep its word to school administrators and that most schools would start receiving capitation funds by Monday next week.

CS Magoha was speaking to the media at Mbaga Girls’ High school in Siaya after laying the foundation for the Second Phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

There had been reports that capitation funds were to reach schools by Friday this week but now CS Magoha has clarified the situation.

CS Magoha urged schools to use money collected from parents as fees to fund school activities until the capitation funds are released.

“We are releasing capitation funds at least by Monday when the money will hit the banks,” said CS Magoha.

CS Magoha also informed the public that the government would complete more than 10,000 classrooms before the General elections that are slated for the month of August.

“In the second phase where we are targeting more than 3,500 classrooms, we are already at 10%,” revealed Magoha.

Prof Magoha also said that he is confident of the remaining classrooms being completed at least two days before the General Election day on the 9th of August, 2022.

The CS warned school principals not to send students home because the government will provide capitation at the earliest time possible.

The Kiambu Sub-County Director of Education Roselyne Litaba also emphasized the same and implored parents who may have difficulties to share them with heads of institutions in order to devise a payment plan or clear their fees arrears.
