Magoha Reveals A Number Of Teachers Trained For CBC

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has revealed that the government has made the necessary preparations to allow for the transition of learners from primary school to junior secondary school.

Besides, CS Magoha said that at the time he was speaking, 330,000 teachers have already undergone training on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to allow for a smooth transition from primary to junior secondary.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has revealed that it is set to train 60,000 secondary school teachers on how to handle junior secondary school levels between March and April 2022.

Reading the construction of the CBC classrooms, Magoha said that the first phase will have been completed before the national examinations start.

“The second phase of construction of the classrooms will be done in April just after the end of the national examination period,” said Magoha.

According to the CS around a thousand classrooms have been completed while 2,000 more have reached the roofing stage. It is only in a meagre 50 where construction is yet to begin.

Prof Magoha also revealed that the release of Kshs 3.2 billion funds meant for the payment for the construction CBC classes has been done. This is an indication that the government is fully committed to the full implementation of the new 2-6-3-3-3 curriculum.

According to CS Magoha, the funds will be dispatched directly to the M-PESA accounts of the contractors for transparency in the whole process.

Magoha also warned officials from the Ministry of Education who may interfere by creating bottlenecks that action will be taken against them.

The CS visited Ramba Boy’s High School and Aluor Girls in Siaya County where he assessed the progress of the construction of the CBC classrooms. He also assured that the process of making payment for those who had finished construction will not take more than three days after the contractors have submitted the required correct documents.

“The ministry will act if the wrong papers are brought because we do not want crooks and rogues in our system. Our offices will ensure the documents are double-checked because the funds are going straight to the vendor and there is no percentage for anybody. Our President, Uhuru Kenyatta has provided the funds to be used to pay the contractors who have completed the CBC classrooms,” said Magoha.
