Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has flagged off distribution of food for 35,000 pupils attending more than 1,000 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres.
While speaking at the event held on Wednesday, Governor Wavinya Ndeti revealed that the couny had spent around Kes. 36 Million shillings on the school feeding proramme as at that time.
However, she emphasized that her government will do its best to ensure that all children can access food when they attend school.
“The food will ensure the kids come to school, a hungry child cannot concentrate in class. We are starting in the grassroots hoping that by 2030 we will have achieved sustainable development that will curb hunger,” she revealed.
On her part, the Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi revealed that the exercise is in line with their promise of ensuring that the ECDE learners can attend school without distractions.
He also revealed that they are working on a long-term plan that will prevent the food crisis and implore well-wishers to partner with them.
“This is in line with our promise for school feeding program for ECDE kids as it forms the foundation for the learning process in life. We commit to supporting all school-going children to stay in school to build their future without interruptions as we work on long-term measures to curb the food crisis,” deputy Governor Mwangangi.
