Five staff members of the support staff of Lugulu Girls High School have been suspended for allegedly catalyzing students in staging a protest.
The members of staff include the cateress, two cooks, the school nurse, and the storekeeper.
In the letter, the five support staff shall be on leave until January 10, 2021.
Students had staged a protest last week against the alleged rape of their schoolmate.
A number of students alleged that the attacker even tried to suffocate the victim but the victim managed to scream and woke up other girls. The attacker then disappeared into the darkness.
“We do not know why the students have been sent home since yet they were demanding justice for one of their own who was defiled,” said one of the suspended staff members to Nation Africa.
The worker revealed that one of them was suspended for inciting other subordinate staff to protest over salaries’ delay.
“We were given half of our salaries in October and November,” said one of the staff members to Nation Africa.
The locals around the school accused the Principal of Lugulu Girls High School of running the school with an iron fist.

Complaints were also launched concerned with the award of tenders and tribalism in the recruitment of staff.
The Principal to the school, Ms. Cheruiyot did not respond to attempts to contact her from Teacher.co.ke.
Following the issues, the Board of Management of Lugulu Girls High School closed it indefinitely as police officers are investigating the allegations of defilement.
Bungoma East police boss Valerian Obore said that officers are following information acquired as they are searching for the suspect.
Bungoma East Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Aggrey Namisi revealed that students were annoyed by their principal’s slow response after the issue was reported and no action taken over the same.
Lugulu Girls High School Details
Lugulu Girls High School is a national girls’ boarding school located along Misikhu, Webuye constituency, Bungoma County in the Western Region.
The school had a mean of 8.25 in the 2019 KCSE results. The school was 2 nd best in Bungoma County.
