The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered 43 teachers over various professional misconduct. Besides, the Commission has warned all schools, both private and public against hiring the mentioned teachers.
TSC Chief Executive Officer Dr Nancy Macharia revealed in a Gazette notice that the sacked teachers will cease being genuine teachers with immediate effect.
The TSC CEO also urged heads of all learning institutions to desist from employing the removed teachers otherwise they risk facing the full wrath of the law.
“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified hereinbelow have been removed from the Register of Teachers.”
“It is against the law to employ in any school a person not being a registered teacher and the school heads found doing that shall be liable to a fine of not less than Sh 100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both,” read the TSC notice.
This means that the deregistered teachers shall not be registered or employed by any institution without input from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Besides, the TSC Act stipulates that any of the teachers sacked will be immediately deregistered from the Register of Teachers starting from the date of official sacking and are not allowed to engage in any teaching unless the Commission re-registers them.
In May, the Commission also sacked 52 teachers due to cases of professional misconduct. The same happened in November 2020 when 50 teachers also lost their jobs for professional misconduct.
