The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has asked the government to include all stakeholders of education in the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) taskforce that is set for Commissioning.
The CBC taskforce is set to undertake a comprehensive review of the CBC and address concerns of all stakeholders regarding the new system of education.
KNUT’s Secretary General Collins Oyuu has revealed that the union is a major stakeholder in the whole process because it represents teachers who are a crucial part of implementing the new system.
Oyuu was speaking while in Kisumu where he attended the closing ceremony of the 94th edition of the Kenya Music Festival.
According to Oyuu, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) should also be included in the CBC review taskforce.
The KNUT Secretary General ruled out the removal of the new system and reinstating of the outgoing 8-4-4 system adding that individuals calling for the scrapping of the CBC are misguided.
He said that the only option was reviewing the gaps and find solutions to the shortcomings as well as improve its favourable aspects.
Besides, Oyuu criticized politicians for scorning teachers regarding the CBC.
“It is wrong for an elected leader to claim that teachers are eliminating chickens in entire villages via the CBC,” said Oyuu.
