A Kisii University student was arrested on Monday while masquerading as a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations candidate.
According to the Police, the suspect was arrested at Kiamabundu Mixed Secondary school in Nyaribari Chache.
The 20-year-old man is set to be arraigned in court on charges of impersonation which is an infringement of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) guidelines for examination conduct.
According to reports, examination papers were distributed from 6:00 a.m. after the examination container was opened in the Gucha area in Kisii County.
Gucha Deputy County Commission Emanual Ngala who oversaw the opening urged heads of institutions who had come to select English and Chemistry examination papers on behalf of their respective examination centres to follow the examination regulations given. In addition, he also urged them to turn off their mobile phones in examination rooms and keep their examination centre gates open in the duration of the examinations.
Gucha has 1258 registered candidates who are currently sitting for their 2021 KCSE national examinations. Of these boys are slightly more than girls at 51% (648).
Security has been bosted in all parts of the country, Nyamira county included as the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) continues in schools across the country.
During the opening of the KNEC container where examinations are stored, Nyamira South County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Julius Otieno confirmed that security has been boosted to ensure that the examination is conducted without any problems or incidents of insecurity throughout the examination period.
Otieno warned Centre managers not to interfere with the examination process as this will have serious ramifications and urged them to keep the examination papers in one of the examination classrooms where monitoring and security will be easy rather than in offices or staffrooms.
