KCPE, KCSE Examination Ready, Set To Arrive Next Week and Commence In March

The KCPE and KCSE examination papers meant for the 1.9 million candidates sitting in March will arrive in Kenya next week.

The first batch of the exams is set to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from the United Kingdom, with more batches the following suit shortly thereafter.

This information came into the light as preparations to secure the test from interference continue. The measures include the deployment of security personnel and ensuring that the containers are stored safely.

Heavy manpower will be deployed to ensure the exams are a success. The exams are written under the new normal of COVID-19 conditions in the months of March and April.

In normal times, the exams are usually done between the months of October and November. However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that necessitated the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 protocols of social distancing, regular sanitizing, and the wearing of facemasks.

The Kenya National Examination Council has revealed that 286,901 field officers (including supervisors and invigilators) will be contracted for examination administration compared to the 173,000 field officers who were involved in the same tasks in 2019.

The details are contained in a document assessing preparedness for the two national examinations.

In the KCSE examination, 752,933 candidates shall sit for the examinations in some 10,437 centers compared to 10,287 centers that were approved in 2019.

KNEC is gathering data on schools that were closed down and the candidates that were affected as a result of the long closure of schools following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kenya National Examinations Council is considering the challenge of adverse weather conditions as examinations are set to be conducted during the long rains.

The council has also noted that insecurity and flooding of major lakes and rivers in some parts as possible challenges.

The examinations will be the fifth consecutive administered in strict measures adopted in 2016 to prevent cheating.

In 2021, the council has secured 479 containers at the sub-county headquarters where the examination papers will be kept.

They utilize a double locking system, sub-county directors of education and deputy county commissioners will be the only ones authorized to open and close them.

Expansive sub-counties will get more extra containers to be located at assistant county commissioners’ official compounds.

The appointment of supervisors and invigilators in progress and shall be completed by the end of this month.

KNEC will also put in place the required mechanisms to be used to deliver and return the examination materials to ensure that the examination process is a success.

Just like preparations for sitting for the examinations, preparations for the examination marking are also ongoing, with 7,402 KCPE examiners and 27,247 KCSE counterparts getting ready for the marking exercise.

Both road and air transport will be used to avert to ensure that the examination process does not face any problems.

The KCPE examination will start on March 22 and end on March 24.

KCSE candidates shall rehearse on March 25 before sitting the exam from March 26 to April 21.
