KASNEB has been forced to postpone the CPA examinations that were going to be done in the coming week due to a surge in infection rates of COVID-19.
The examinations have now been rescheduled to the 17th of May, 2020.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health warned over a sharp rise in new COVID-19 cases in counties that are not within the zoned areas that are under lockdown.
There are counties that are now under the watchful eye of the government and these comprise Murang’a, Uasin Gishu, Nyeri, and Siaya counties.
The Ministry of Health now wants county emergency committees in the above-mentioned counties to establish specific containment measures to help in curbing the spread of the virus and avoid a surge of COVID-19 cases.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that despite there being a drop in the rates of infection in the counties that are under lockdown, the sharp increase in cases in other counties is a potential dent in the progress made up to this moment.
“We have spoken to governors and county commissioners in those counties and asked them to take country-specific measures so that we can contain the spikes in those areas,” said CS Kagwe.
“If it happens and if we continue the way we are going then it is likely that we are going to go down to the recommended five percent flattening rate that WHO says is what we should be aiming at,” he added.
However, the CS said that the set containment measures will not be relaxed even though there has been a decrease in the infection rates.
The counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Nakuru, and Kajiado were put in lockdown after the National Emergency Response Committee recommended an effort to be taken to handle the fast spread of the novel coronavirus in the above-mentioned counties.
The rate of spread has reduced in the last few days from a high 20 percent to a rate of around 10 percent.
Kagwe said that views by some Kenyans that the economy is reopened are premature as he added that other factors like the rates of admissions at hospitals and ICU bed occupancy will also have a say regarding when the measures will be relaxed.
CS Mutahi Kagwe gave his speech while receiving a donation of PPEs that are worth Sh. 2.3 million from MultiChoice Kenya Managing Director Nancy Matimu at the Afya House on April 21, 2021.
The CS also said that there is a slight reduction in infection rates but hospitalization rates and ICU bed occupancy keeps rising.
“There is a lot of pressure for us to open up certain areas but I think we should be led by science and we must be led by fact rather than just feelings,” said CS Kagwe.
“We have no choice for the time being and as much as we sympathize with our fellow Kenyans we have to keep the containment measures at least until we come down to a level that is understandable,” added the Cabinet Secretary.
Concerning vaccines, CS Kagwe urged Kenyans to be patient as the government is trying to find other avenues of getting more doses for the second round of doses for vaccination.
Kenya is currently attempting to get more doses via the African Union agreement after there has been uncertainty concerning the availability of the next consignment of vaccines. This is because the SERUM Institute in India is currently serving the local population as the demand for the COVID-19 vaccine has remained ever high.
