The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has interdicted five of the six teachers who were captured on video forcing primary school pupils to simulate sex in Itumbe DOK Primary School in Kisii County.
Interdiction letters were served to:
- Everlyne Moraa,
- Catherine Mokaya,
- Angelica Joseph,
- Moraa Nyairo and
- William Isuka
According to TSC the teachers were suspended from duty effective immediately.
The video that was doing rounds on the internet captured six learners in Grade 2 simulating sexual acts under a tree in the school compound as the teachers looked on.
The incident caused an uproar among netizens with the Commission finding the teachers to have breached Clause 9 (1) of the Conduct for teachers by actively participating, recoding the video footage of the minors and circulating the same on social media. This in the view of the Commission, caused trauma, mental torture and embarrassment to the minors.
One of the young boys being forced to carry out the indecent act could be seen crying and wiping out his tears as he was forced to participate in the act.
“You exposed the learners to indecent sexual acts by directing them to engage in inappropriate acts depicting homosexuality within the school compound, consequently you are hereby interdicted with effect from February 2nd 2023,” read part of the interdiction letter.
The five have been informed that they can defend themselves in writing to the Commission within 21 days and were also given an opportunity to be heard in person.
“You are therefore required to show cause why you should not be deregistered,” read the letter further.
They were also told to indicate to the TSC Sub-County office where they will be required to report once a month, and present any other evidence to support their case.
Meanwhile the teachers were directed to vacate office and forfeit their annual leave.
