The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has advised gay students to be well-mannered while in school and desist from hopping from one bed to another in the dormitories.
Magoha implored students who are homosexual to avoid engaging in such activities in the school compound. In his view, this will ensure that the other students are not disturbed.
The CS also warned that students with that character should not be studying in boarding schools.
He stated that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ) students should be closer to their parents so that they can be closer to their parents who will be able to provide guidance and accountability.
“If a student wants to hop from one bed to another, then they will be released to go to a day school where they will be closer to their parents who are their first priority,” said CS Magoha.
CS Magoha stated that while he is not against gays, he would not allow such behaviour to exist in learning institutions.
“We have no issue with homosexuals who do such activities in the streets. If you are like some we have found moving from one bed to another and have proclaimed that they are the ones, then they shall be day scholars,” said Magoha.
Regarding expulsion of LGBTQ learners from schools, Magoha stated that he has never directed the expulsion of homosexual learners from schools, adding that schools are only allowed to expel students who are highly indisciplined, invasive and manipulative.
Previously, CS Magoha directed homosexuals to be enrolled in day schools near their homes and those already in boarding schools to be transferred to Day-schools.
Magoha argued that this would protect the majority of learners from such activities.
“At the moment, there have been contemporary cases of children who are homosexuals and lesbians. They must attend day schools near their homes. The main responsibility if for the greater majority and not a few individuals. Do not allow yourselves to be intimidated by children,” said Magoha.
