For a primary school teacher to be deployed to teach in junior secondary school they are required to have attained the following qualifications:
- Diploma in Education
- Higher National Diploma in Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Post-Graduate Diploma in Education
- Masters Degree or PhD in Education
The Competence-Based Curriculum’s (CBC) junior secondary school comprises grades 7, 8, and 9.
They should all have completed secondary teacher education and have experience teaching at least two subjects.
At their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), you must have a mean grade of C+ (plus) or higher.
They should also have attained a C+ (Plus) or higher in the two teaching subjects in their KCSE.
NOTE:
- Teachers who scored a C (Plain) or lower at KCSE and went on to study for a bachelor’s degree in education (secondary option) are not eligible for deployment.
- A teacher is also supposed to have been on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for them to teach in JSS.
- Boards of Management (BOM) are constituted by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Basic Education and are delegated authority to oversee the management of education resources and the execution of policies and guidelines in basic education institutions.
