The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has released the first batch of students who will receive their HELB loans next week.
The Board released the first batch of first years in universities and colleges which contained 37,731 names who in total will receive 99.9 Billion Kenyan Shillings for the 2021/2022 academic year.
The director of HELB, Abdul-Razaq Badru has revealed that out of the 37,731 names, 23,379 of them are male while 14,352 are female. Besides, he revealed that HELB has begun disbursing money through the respective institutions in preparation for deposits to banks to be made for the students concerned.
The affected students have been directed to check with the institutions and find out whether the deposits have been effected.
“The students should get the full information from the accounts that they used when they were applying for the HELB loans which are called (Student’s Individual Permanent Account (SIPA), and prepare themselves to travel to their colleges for registration,” he said.
Badru has added that the government has done its role in the process by providing the funds. In response, the board has begun transmitting funds to the respective universities.
“We want to make sure students find the money upon reporting for their studies,” said Badru.
According to Abdul-Razaq Badru, the names of the students who will receive the second batch will be announced on the 21st of October, 2021 after the ongoing review of applications is completed.
