President William Ruto’s government is set to recruit 30,000 teachers in January to ease the burden on teachers.
This will definitely mean that teachers will no longer have to work extra long hours.
President Ruto said while in Komarock yesterday the 12th of October that the recruitment drive will be the first phase of the process with the ultimate goal being hiring 116,000 teachers.
“I understand that we have a huge shortage of teachers in the country and we agreed that during the elections we will consistently and deliberately reduce the gap between the number of teachers in the school and those who are supposed to be in school.
“Beginning January, we are going to begin phase one. We will recruit 30,000 teachers. We are going to recruit both permanent and pensionable as well as on an internship basis,” said President Ruto.
Besides, Ruto said that discussions with the teachers’ employer the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to draft a recruitment strategy had already been completed.
Ruto also said that the government will have employed enough teachers to distribute in all schools over the next five years in the country.
Ruto recognized the efforts of qualified volunteer teachers in the schools at the Komarock Primary School’s opening.
Besides, the Head of State also said that the government would find ways of increased the number of primary and secondary schools.
“We want our children to learn in an environment where there are enough classrooms and enough teachers and we can have the meaningful acquisition of knowledge in our schools,” said President Ruto.
The Ruto government has previously emphasized the importance of improving the country’s education system, which was evident when he unveiled the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) task force.
The Government also hinted at the possibility of keeping the outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha for the foreseeable future.
“You have expressed patriotism that though you are outgoing, you did not just leave other people to come and take care of the Ministry. I want to assure you that we are not in a hurry to get rid of you,” said Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
