Government of Kenya Declares The 14th Of May a Public Holiday To Mark IDD-UL-FITR
The Government of Kenya has declared Friday 14th May a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr.
The Government announced this via the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Dred Matiang’I in a Gazette notice dated the 5th of May 2021.
Muslims all over the world started fasting in the 3rd week of April after sighting the moon, with there being strict precautions due to COVID-19.
During the month of Ramadhan, Muslims are required to observe strict fasting between dawn and dusk and participate in religious activities like prayers, reciting the Koran, and charitable giving.
Interior PS Karanja Kibicho wished Muslims across the country a blessed Idd-ul-Fitr ahead of the Idd-Ul-Fitr holiday.

For Muslims worldwide, Ramadhan is normally when they renew their faith and purify their ‘hearts and souls’ .
They take 30 days duration to reflect, fast, and hold special night prayers among other things.
During the period, Muslims forgo food and water as well as sexual relations from dawn to dusk. Those who are exempt are children, the elderly, and the mentally challenged.
