Friends School Kamusinga Lauded for Excellent KCSE Performance

The Principal Secretary for University Education and Research, Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi has recognized and applauded the excellence 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The institution bounced back and appeared in the top ten performing schools countrywide. The school had notably backslid in its KCSE performance over the years and it has now revived its glorious status.

Speaking while at the school compound, PS Nabukwesi acknowledged the rejuvenation of the school and called on parents, teachers, support staff and the community  to continue supporting the school and move the school to a better position in the coming days,

PS Nabukwesi had gone to the school to attend an education stakeholders’ and students’ meeting that was held to raise funds for the school.

Amb Nabukwesi acknowledged the school’s need for better infrastructure with there being a large population of students in the school.

PS Simon Nabukwesi is also an alumnus of Friends School Kamusinga and he is also the Board of Management Chairperson.

“Friends School Kamusinga is a big school in the country and needs structures for students to enjoy an environment and be focused to get higher grades to join Universities of their choice,” said Nabukwesi.

The PS appreciated the School Principal’s role in bringing about good results. Besides he also revealed that the school’s management had gotten bored of the school when the school dropped to position 22.

However, Nabukwesi also implored the school’s alumni to go back to their schools and support them to perform even better than they are currently doing.

“Let us support our school to have better infrastructure so that learners can enjoy the school environment,” said Amb. Nabukwesi also urged students to work harder bearing in mind that this year’s academic calendar is so congested.

“This year’s education schedule is very short and if you do not double our efforts, you may end up not achieving our set goals, let us work as a team and achieve our targets and make Kamusinga great again for future generations,” said PS Nabukwesi.

On his part, the school principal Mr Alex Kariuki revealed that the school was established in 1956 as a single streamed school but has grown to greater heights because of its excellent performance over the years. He also revealed that at the moment the school had 1,800 learners.

Kariuki pointed out that in the 2021 KCSE examinations, the school registered 389 students with 365 of them attaining university-joining grades of C+ (plus) and above.

He said that the school got a mean of 9.6221 which is a university success of 94.5 per cent.

The principal revealed that the school needs around Kshs. 180 million to complete the Storey dormitory which is currently in use, build a multi-purpose hall and a social hall which is to hold around 800 students.

Mr Kariuki also revealed that the school does perform well in co-curricular activities and all sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) are all offered as compulsory subjects with the intention of producing engineers for the development of the country.
