Elderly Chief in Tana River Collapses and dies while sitting for his KCSE Chemistry Examination

An elderly chief in Tana River County collapsed and died on Wednesday while doing his Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) examination.

Sala location chief Abdi Bute Sure was doing the Chemistry Paper-II test when he collapsed. The elderly candidate was then taken to Hola County Referral Hospital where he was checked and released thereafter.

However, after the elderly candidate failed to get out of his room, lodge attendants in a hotel where he was residing called the police.

“The hotel attendants were concerned that the old man had not gotten out of his room yet he was sitting for his examinations,” said Tana River DCIO Habel Ndikira informed the media.

The family of the deceased said that the chief was having issues of high blood pressure besides chronic asthma.

The elderly chief had been registered as a private candidate at the examination center.

The cause of the chief’s death is yet to be established. This is according to Tana River County Commissioner Mr. Mathias Mbogai Rioba.

The elderly chief was buried immediately. This is in line with the regulations as the Islamic faith stipulates.
