Egerton University is once more among the top universities in Kenya, Africa, and the world in the January 2021 webometrics ranking. The ranking was based on ‘Impact’, ‘Openness’, and ‘Excellence’.
‘Ranking Web’ or ‘Webometrics’ is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions. The ranking is for institutions that offer free, independent, objective, and open scientific exercise for providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world at intervals of every six months.
In the latest rankings Egerton University has been portrayed as a high-flying and therefore the best university in the country. In Africa, the institution has ranked fifth.
The Impact Rank measures academic web presence, open access initiatives and transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge that universities produce to the whole society.
The Impact Rank reveals Egerton’s ability to harness its digital devices thereby propagating quality education to many.
This comes amid the whole world of academia working to try and integrate technology in delivering education.
When considering other factors like openness and excellence, the Website of Egerton University comes in at second in Kenya.
Egerton University’s move to the new website is just but the beginning of the institution’s journey to sealing top position across all categories.
“Webometrics ranking correlates well with the quality of education provided and academic prestige, but other non-academic variables need to be taken into account,” said Webometrics.
A higher rank for a university in webometrics should push them to put together the processes of change in academia, in order to increase their scholars’ commitment and progressively set up the required long term academic strategies.
