Date for Verification of P1 Teachers’ Documents Set

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has revealed the date for verification of documents for Primary Teacher Education (PTE) teachers who seek deployment to Junior Secondary Schools.

The Commission opened the online application portal for P1 teachers with Degree and Diploma Secondary options to make applications.

According to TSC, the application window will elapse on the 6th of February 2023, Monday next week.

The Commission asked teachers who meet the requirements to submit applications via the link: https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login

However, it is only teachers who are serving under permanent and pensionable terms in public primary schools are eligible to apply.

The Commission has also set the 7th of February 2023 as the date when verification of documents who applied for deployment to junior secondary school will take place.

Physical verification of documents will be done at TSC Sub-County Directors’ offices.

The documents that will be required for verification are Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Primary Teacher Education (PTE), Degree and Diploma certificates, appointment letters, leaving certificates and transcripts among others.

Teachers who have attained degree and diploma certificates from foreign universities are required to issue clearance from the Commission for University Education.

TSC has also asked teachers applying for deployment but is not on Teacher Management Information System (TMIS) to liaise with their Sub-County offices and ICT officers for assistance.

There are teachers who have complained that applying for deployment is not possible because their details have not been captured on TMIS.

Schools that do not have a TSC code are not on TMIS and this hinders the application process for the teachers.

This has led to some teachers being temporarily added to other schools’ TMIS to allow them to apply for the advertised jobs.

Requirements for application for Deployment

  1. A teacher should have attained a minimum of Grade C+ (plus) mean grade at their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
  2. Should have attained at least grade C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
  3. At least eight (8) teaching units in each of the two teaching subjects
  4. Must be serving as a primary school teacher under TSC.

TSC is currently seeking to recruit enough teachers who can handle the 1.26 Million Grade 7 learners.

The Commission has already recruited 30,550 teachers who shall serve in junior secondary schools. Out of these 9,000 posts are on permanent and pensionable terms while 21,550 posts are for teacher interns.

There are around 27,000 public junior secondary schools that were recently approved by the Ministry of Education.
