The Ministry of Education has said that the school calendar will undergo reviewing so that learners will not lose the current academic year due to the corona-enforced break.
This comes after the government opted against allowing learners in Forms 1, 2, and 3 and those in Grades 1, 2, and 3 and classes 5, 6, and 7 to join the other learners who are currently in school.
Speaking at Maragua Ridge Secondary School in Murang’a County where he inspected desks and chairs in schools, CS Magoha said that the KCPE and KCSE examination timetable will undergo a review and then the Ministry of Education will inform the public on any decisions made.
Prof Magoha urged stakeholders of schools to work together to ensure learners, teachers, and non-teaching staff follow the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“I am happy to say that most schools and institutions I have visited have done their best to make sure COVID-19 protocols are followed,” said CS Magoha.
“By next Friday, all chairs and desks produced by the government will reach school schools. Quality assurance officers will inspect them to ensure that products delivered have the standards matching the Ksh. 1.9 Billion that the government allocated for the project, “added Prof George Magoha.
The government chose 5,254 secondary schools and 5,136 primary schools like the one to benefit from the government’s project.
“Jua Kali artisans who have delivered the furniture to schools by the coming Friday shall receive payment via mobile money transfer system,” said Prof George Magoha.
President Uhuru announced in his address to the nation yesterday that all institutions of basic education will resume in January next year.
President Kenyatta, while speaking at State House yesterday, said that learners who are already in school will continue learning.
“Concerning examination classes that are in schools learning, I hereby order that they continue learning and preparing for examinations but under heightened health safety measures. I also order that all basic education classes resume one-on-one learning in January 2021,” said President Kenyatta.
