CS Machogu Addresses Claims of Favoring Nyanza Schools in the KCSE Examinations

The Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has rebuffed claims that the recently released 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) was leaked to favor schools from the Nyanza region.

Critics had claimed that many schools in Kisii and Nyamira Counties have recorded better grades that do not reflect their improvement over time.

However, CS Machogu implored the critics to stop spreading false claims, arguing that the schools are being targeted unfairly.

According to CS Magoha, was that the ranking of schools is no longer allowed, he would have released a more detailed breakdown of results to show how other schools performed.

“Let us stop propaganda. It cannot benefit anyone,” he said.

He revealed that the Ministry of Education had implemented a process that safeguarded the integrity of the 2022 KCSE examinations beyond reproach.

“Schools from Kisii are being singled out unfairly yet some counties have far better grades,” said CS Machogu.

Regarding the performance of Nyambaria National School which is located in Nyamira County, CS Machogu said that Boaz Owino, the principal of the institution has a solid track record over the years.

“If you look at his history, you will appreciate him because wherever he has been, there is a remarkable improvement,” said CS Machogu to the media.

“Let us wait for the 2023 examinations and ensure that our children work hard,” he said.

Critics have claimed that the 2022 KCSE examinations had some schools getting huge variances and ‘abnormal’ improvement curves that dwarfed academic giants.

This year had an improvement in the A grades with this year recording 1,146 while last year had 1,138.

Many experts and elected officials have called for an investigation to be carried out on the 2022 KCSE results, saying that the increase of As suggests there was widespread cheating.
