Charles’ Law
Charles’ Law states that at constant pressure, the volume of a fixed mass of a gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature. When the temperature of a gas goes up, its volume goes down, and when the temperature goes down, the volume goes up.
Mathematically, Charles’ law is expressed as V ∝ T, or simply V = kT ,
At the end of this form 3 chemistry tutorial, you will have 3 worked out and well explained examples of numerical problems applying the concept of Charles’ law.
This video lesson covers the following concepts:
- What is Charles’s Law?
- Jacques Charles’ balloon experiments
- Derivation of V ∝ T, or simply V = kT, and V1/T1 = V2/T2.
- Graphical representation of Charles’ law
- Absolute Zero and Absolute Temperature Scale
- How to Convert Temperatures from Celsius Scale to Absolute Scale and Vice Versa
- 3 Numerical Problems involving Charles’ law
