24000 Students Awarded Kshs. 81 Million Scholarships in Kericho County Bursaries

24,000 students from Kericho counties got reason to smile after Kericho County Government awarded them bursaries worth Kshs. 81 Million to support their education.

During the disbursement event, Kericho County Deputy Governor Lily Ngok said that students in the county’s secondary and tertiary institutions were in need and would benefit greatly from the funds which will help them to continue with their education without interruption.

According to Ms Ngok, the Kericho Bursary Fund Act passed by the County Assembly has done wonders with many needy students benefiting from the scheme and being able to continue with their education. It has also been revealed that more students will benefit from the scheme in future with more funds being availed.

“This life-transforming initiative has of today collectively distributed Kshs. 775 million benefitting more than 182,203 students and hence contributing to the social development of our County,” said Ms Ngok.

According to her, the first students who benefitted from the funds were secondary school students in 2016 and are now benefitting from the funds again in their tertiary institutions.

“We have few beneficiaries who have completed their education and are pursuing various professions, contributing to our nation’s socioeconomic well-being, and we are proud of that achievement,” said Ms Ngok.

Among Ms Ngok’s entourage were officials from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
