Embu Clubs Closed over the Sell of Alcohol to Minors

The Governor of Embu County Cecily Mbarire has taken back the licences issued to two clubs that were found selling alcohol to 28 high school students.

The Governor was at the University of Embuwhere she was speaking to a group of farmers when she issued a cheque worth a mouth-watering Kshs. 125.87 million from the National Agricultural Rural Inclusive Growth Project.

Mbarire said that ‘Oxic 14’ and ‘Tropical’ clubs had gone against the law when they sold alcohol to school children and that no cubs will be issued licenses for them to destroy the lives of the clubs. We cannot entertain this,” said the governor.

According to the Embu Governor, the two closed clubs will serve as an example to other operators of bars.

Embu County Commissioner echoed the Governor’s sentiments saying that it was worrying seeing young people in bars.

Kihara implored parents to closely monitor their children during this long holiday season so that they do not engage in activities that could ruin their academic lives.

Police in Runyenjes nabbed 28 secondary school students on Sunday night after they were found partying in the clubs.

Confirming the arrests, Embu East Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Jane Waruige said that the students comprised 7 girls and 21 boys.

Ms Waruige revealed that some students are actually candidates who are set to sit for their KCSE examinations and the rest from other classes.
